Shabana Mahmood MP attends the 2nd Word 4 Weapons & Birmingham Empowerment Forum Community Awards

Shabana Mahmood attended the second annual Word 4 Weapons and Birmingham Empowerment Forum Community Awards on Friday 30th September 2016 at Villa Park.

The awards give recognition to the inspirational work of those who battle to keep our communities safe from gun and knife crime.

Word 4 Weapons is a multi-award winning, faith based organisation founded in 2007 by Michael Smith who in 2016 received an MBE from the Queen for his work with Word 4 Weapons. Birmingham Empowerment Forum is an independent organisation set up to develop the voices of all of the communities in Birmingham.

Shabana said:

"It was an honour to attend the awards on Friday.

I had the privilege of presenting Marcia McLaughlin of the Birmingham based newspaper Phoenix with the Community Group Inspiration Award, the award to a group that is working hard to create greater Community Spirit and cohesion in a changing environment.

We need to do everything we can to keep up the hard work of combating knife and gun crime, and these awards make sure that we give due credit to the amazing work being done".
