Shabana has welcomed further news from the Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Local Government on Shisha regulation.

Last month, Shabana called the landmark Shisha enquiry from the Department a “game-changer”.

Now, officials have told Shabana that they are “in the process of producing a consultation document setting out regulatory reforms to grant local authorities powers to regulate the establishment and operation of shisha bars.”

The Department is exploring amendments to the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982, and working with officers from Westminster City Council to discuss progress to date and next steps. A working group will now be established in order to build sufficient evidence to justify legislative action.
