Speaking as the Birmingham Fair Housing Campaign launched their manifesto to address the housing crisis, Shabana Mahmood said:

“I welcome the manifesto launched today by Birmingham Fair Housing Campaign that seeks to address the severe housing crisis that has a grip of our city.

“It is shocking that 50 percent of private renters who took part in the campaign said they were living in houses which were in a bad condition or needed repairs.

“Every week I deal with hundreds of cases on behalf of residents regarding housing – whether that’s housing repairs, overcrowding, or substandard private rented accommodation.

“I’ve also been leading Birmingham’s response on exempt accommodation, a blight on the housing sector that puts public money in the pockets of cowboy landlords exploiting vulnerable tenants.

“I support the Campaign’s calls for good quality, eco-friendly social rent housing, that instils pride in our city and allows Brummies to thrive.”
