The Government must commit to bringing forward legislation in the forthcoming Queen's Speech.

Commenting on the Government’s announcement on exempt accommodation, Shabana Mahmood MP said:

“The Government’s announcement on exempt accommodation is progress, but crucially it has said it will only act ‘when parliamentary time allows’. The Government is in charge of the parliamentary timetable, so it is entirely up to them to act.

“They must commit to bringing forward legislation in the forthcoming Queen’s Speech. We need to see the Government’s draft proposals imminently, with a clear and urgent timescale for implementation, to ensure this isn’t warm words that do nothing for our community.

“This is a testament to the hard work of many people in Birmingham and I’d like to thank everyone for their campaigning. We still have a huge amount of work to do.”
