Earlier this week, gave a speech Keir Starmer setting out Labour’s commitment to Britain’s economic growth. Whilst the Conservatives continue infighting through their leadership contest, it’s clear Labour will give Britain the fresh start it needs.  

Make sure you head down to Gilby Road Park tomorrow for a Fun and Games Day run by the Ladywood Community Project. With a programme of games and events the whole family will enjoy starting from midday– bring your friends and neighbours! 

I know lots of constituents are very concerned about gun violence following the incidents that took place last weekend. I have received a briefing from West Midlands Police and investigations are ongoing. Thankfully gun violence is rare Birmingham, but I will keep working with West Midlands Police, and other stakeholders as the investigation develops.  

The Commonwealth Games will be upon us next week, which looks set to be a fantastic couple of weeks of sport. The Queens Baton Relay will be coming through the Jewellery Quarter and Aston next Thursday – make sure you don’t miss it. The Aston and Nechells foodbank has contacted me to say that the 3 day Tesco National Foodbank collection at the Aston Lane Store with donations totalling 1 tonne in weight. However, last Friday they had their highest number of requests for help in since we opened in 2011. As such they are running low on food lines in particular of coffee, UHT milk, long life fruit juice, squash and all toiletry items. If anyone can help in any way to organise a specific collection, speak with colleagues, family and friends or can drop donations to their regular warehouse or distribution sessions it will be great extra support. 

I am sure you will have all seen how hot it is set to get this weekend and into next week – please be careful and make sure you are keeping hydrated and protected from the sun. This is also when we need to be checking on our elderly or more vulnerable friends and relatives.
