Shabana Mahmood Member of Parliament for Birmingham Ladywood
Shabana joined the Prime Minister on a visit with faith leaders following recent disorder across the country.
The visit took place at an Islamic centre that was impacted by a far-right march in the West Midlands.
The Prime Minister met faith leaders, community representatives and police officers – alongside the West Midlands Mayor, Richard Parker.
Earlier in the week Shabana condemned those involved in acts of violent thuggery in communities up and down Britain.
Speaking at a secondary school after the visit, Shabana Mahmood said:
“I’ve been with the Prime Minister today, after a difficult week for our city and for the country.
“To those who joined the thuggery, you made a grave mistake, because justice will find you.
“And it already has – We have seen hundreds arrested and brought before the courts.
“Now, I want to speak directly to people who look like me, who feel real fear on the streets of Britain because of the colour of their skin. I want you to know that I feel that too.
“But amidst the shocking scenes, we’ve also seen the very best of Britain.
“Our community, our home, our country coming together in solidarity.
“And to call upon the motto of my great city of Birmingham we only go one way from here: Forward.”
