Shabana Mahmood Member of Parliament for Birmingham Ladywood
Shabana has announced plans for a new Women’s Justice Board at Labour’s annual conference in Liverpool.
Its goal will be to reduce the number of women going to prison, with the ultimate ambition of having fewer women’s prisons.
Its part of a series of announcements aimed at reforming the experience of women in the justice system.
In addition to the Women’s Justice Board, Shabana also announced a national roll out of independent legal advocates.
The policy is the first step to delivering Labour’s manifesto promise of having independent advocates for rape victims in every part of the country.
