New research shows strong links between ethnicity and high car insurance premiums

Ladywood MP Shabana Mahmood has commented on new research that suggests that people who live in communities with a high proportion of residents from ethnic minority communities pay more for their car insurance.

Shabana said, "I have been campaigning against high car insurance premiums for several years, particularly in my own constituency where the cost seems unusually high. This new report shows a strong link between ethnicity and cost. People who live in areas with a high number of people from the ethnic minority communities are paying an "ethnic penalty" of up to £458. We need a lot more transparancy from insurers about how they calculate premiums and I will be continuing to work in Parliament for fairer insurance costs for my constituents."
