Shabana visited the National College for High Speed Rail in her Constituency on Friday 16th September 2016. Representatives from BCC, College, Willmott Dixon Construction and Acivico attended and presented her with the finished project. This college will have two campuses, one in Birmingham and the other in Doncaster. Shabana was shown around the Birmingham campus site and updated on the latest progress.
The college will be a centre for engineering. It will place rail-especially high speed rail-at the heart of its curriculum and will prepare people for careers using digital technology and in which they need cross-disciplinary skills.
Shabana said, “The College will tackle the engineering skills shortage that is one of the industry’s biggest barriers to sustainability, productivity and growth and make Britain world leaders in High Speed rail infrastructure. I welcome this first new Further Education College in more than two decades in my constituency.”
