Shabana Mahmood Member of Parliament for Birmingham Ladywood
Shabana has co-chaired a virtual conference on the cladding scandal in Birmingham alongside Preet Gill MP.
The conference brought together those across Birmingham affected by the cladding scandal, alongside Birmingham MPs, and the Government Minister responding to the scandal, Lord Greenhalgh.
Leaseholders shared their personal stories about the cladding scandal, from difficulties with EWS1 forms and insurance costs, to building remediation and the mental health impact.
Commenting after the virtual conference, Shabana Mahmood said:
“A huge thanks to all of the leaseholders who shared their personal stories last night at the Cladding Scandal Summit. We will not stop until we finally end the cladding scandal.
“Thanks also to Lord Greenhalgh for engaging constructively with us — but the government needs to go much further and quickly.
“Whether it be EWS(1) forms, the eye-watering costs of interim safety measures, or remediation costs that haven’t been met, leaseholders need action now.
“Leaseholders and tenants should not be shouldering the costs of this scandal but far too many still are. Until this changes, we will keep campaigning to end this injustice.”
