Shabana Mahmood MP has spoken in a Westminster Hall debate, reaffirming her support for Palestine.

The debate, held on Monday 14th June 2021, relates to recent e-petitions calling for the recognition of Palestinian statehood and sanctions against Israel.

In her speech, Shabana repeated her calls for a viable and sovereign Palestinian state and opposed Israeli annexation plans.

Commenting on the debate, Shabana Mahmood said:

“We must reiterate that the illegal occupation – and proposed annexation of the West Bank – are violating international law.

“The indiscriminate and inhumane land, sea and air blockade of Gaza must end. The harm that this blockade has wrought on Palestinians is beyond imagination.

“We cannot, as a global community, allow one state to annex another without severe economic consequences.

“The situation as things stand, for those living in both Palestine and Israel, is untenable and unconscionable. Failed by the international community and – if we are truthful – often by their own leaders, it remains that it is invariably the innocent who pay such a terrible price each and every day.
