On Thursday 28 July, Shabana attended the Opening Ceremony for the 2022 Commonwealth Games at the Alexander Stadium. The Ceremony saw the arrival of the Queen’s Baton after it travelled through Commonwealth countries and all over the UK.

Commenting on the Ceremony, Shabana said:

“What an epic opening ceremony we had last night! We really do know how to put on a show.

“It was fantastic to see Team England’s entrance and the amazing bull. And then to close out the night with Duran Duran! I don’t think I’m the only one with a hoarse voice this morning!

“All of it truly was Birmingham at its best and made me so proud to be a Brummie.

“Excited for a fortnight of amazing sport and hope everyone gets involved in all the events taking place right across the city.”
