It has been a fantastic few weeks since I last posted an update. The results of the local elections show we are on course for a majority Labour Government at the next general election – with huge swings in the key areas we need to win. Labour has been successful in councils across the country because of our plan to tackle the cost of living crisis. The Tories crashed the economy and they don’t know how to fix it. A Labour government would cut the cost of living, cut NHS waiting times and cut crime.
It was a real honour to meet King Charles in the week of his coronation, at a reception in Westminster Hall. I loved watching the coronation procession in Westminster and I hope everyone had a fantastic coronation bank holiday weekend and enjoyed the festivities and street parties – despite the wet weather!
Following our brilliant local election results, I had the pleasure of meeting all of our newly elected Labour council leaders and discussing their emergency plans to tackle the cost of living crisis. Can’t wait to see all the brilliant work these councils will deliver for their areas.
I wrote to the Sports Minister to share her views on the government’s Football White Paper, which seeks to bring in an independent regulator of the game. The long-trailed proposals to regulate English football were revealed in February, which I very much welcomed at the time. In my letter I called for additional measures to be included in the legislation, following a meeting I had with Blues Trust representatives. I also called on the government to urgently bring forward the legislation to secure the future of English football.
Finally, it was great to round off this week visiting the staff and pupils at Aston Manor Academy. It was lovely to walk around the school and I got some brilliant questions from the pupils. Thank you for having me everyone!
I hope everyone has a good weekend!
