Commenting on the anniversary, Shabana Mahmood said:
“This week marked the 75th anniversary of HMT Empire Windrush bringing 500 passengers from the Caribbean to Britain, beginning a new chapter in our country’s history.
“For many of those people, Birmingham became their home, and generations that followed have cemented the legacy of a generation that rebuilt Britain.
“I’m so grateful for the contributions the Windrush generation have made to civic life – and I’m delighted that events this week across our city have celebrated that legacy.”
